Jewelry Care & Guarantees
What is Gold Filled?
Gold filled jewelry is the latest introduction to the jewelry market. Since gold prices have gone up, the cost of a solid gold jewelry can be very costly. So gold filled is an economical alternative, while giving little up in quality. If you care for it properly it will last you long.
Gold filled jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold, which must constitute at least 5% of the item's total weight, mechanically bonded to a base metal (sterling silver, brass, copper and rhodium). To be called gold filled, the gold content must be at least 1/20th (5%) the weight of the total piece. That is the principal difference between gold filled and gold plated. There is not a minimum gold quantity required in order to be termed gold plated.
How to care for Gold Filled Jewelry?
Gold filled jewelry is cared in the same way as other precious jewelry. The best thing you can do for it is to clean it regularly using a little bit of warm water, and a silver cleaning cloth (if you don't have it we sell it for $6). Many chemicals marketed for cleaning jewelry may be abrasive or corrosive and can cause some damager or color alteration.
How long will my Gold Filled jewelry last?
Under normal wearing conditions, and proper care, it can last for a lifetime. It does not chip or peal easily as gold plated jewelry. But heavy wear and rough conditions will impact how your jewelry looks. This is true no matter what your jewelry is made of. You should try to avoid for every type of gold jewelry, salt water, chlorine and all heavy detergents.
